How to.. add more family protection online
With the number of security threats on the increase, including virus attacks, phishing scams, and other not-very-nice methods of trying to get your personal data for mis-use, you cannot be too protected. Obvious protection comes from up-to-date anti-virus on all your PC's, including good anti-malware products as has already been discussed in these pages (here and here).
You can add another layer of protection that helps all the PC's and portable devices behind your router/firewall - through OpenDNS.
It provides a good DNS service, as well as parental controls so you can lock-down access to different types of websites based on group definitions and has good built-in anti-fraud and phishing protection. It also allows you to monitor what website have been accessed etc. to help you police your household.
All you need to do, is sign-up on their website, configure your preferences and put the details provided into your router.
There is a free version called OpenDNS Home or a paid for version (which I use) called OpenDNS Home VIP which adds more bells and whistles to configure.
Go ahead - Use OpenDNS

I might even throw in a few experiences from my work life, with information regarding technology platforms/systems I've had the pleasure to work with recently.
